I was such a bully at a very young age and always wanted to be the ‘group leader’, such choleric tendencies! I could lead a group of children in a run and tell all of them to follow me and hold my top while I led the line. If anyone was to decide otherwise, they were banned from the group and the punishment was to wait until we finish so that they could join in the next game.
During hide and seek I loved peeking a little so the person searching would call out the wrong name then we all shout, ‘Umevunja Nyungu, umevunja nyungu’. The other option was to wait for the person to come so close to where I was peeking and give him a run for his life then I’d of course win the run and tap before them. Come to think of it I guess they feared me so they let me win the run!
I also liked skiving nursery class. My best friend then, Wairimu, was my ‘partner in crime’ so to speak. We could go to class like normal then both pretend we are going to the washroom and run home which was 5 minutes away. Once we met my brother and after questioning we lied that class was dismissed early. Such evidence that we are born with sin!!We’d then play until evening when we new our parents were returning from work..
